Sportsbook Review – thegreek.com
——————————–

The slogan on the home page reads: “Sweat the game, not the payout!” But here at The Greek, my initial instinct is to sweat the fine print. There’s a lot of it greeting me above the fold, which always makes me cautious when visiting a betting establishment. It feels Vegas enough, with plenty of Caesers-esque imagery and reasonably easy surfability. But I’m still waiting for something to jump at me from out of nowhere. So I quickly scoot to the Promotions page.

These guys have some decent cash to offer via their promos. Their NFL contests (free to members) appear to feature hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money, and they’re also tacking on substantial cash bonus incentives for both new and existing members (capped at $250 per month). Certainly nothing to sneeze at. But let’s check under the hood for their commish…

Hmmm. Looks like 20 cents on the NBA and NHL, and the rock-solid dime for the NFL playoffs. Their tables, while easy to read, feel rather retro in a UNIX sort of way. Also, the parlay and teaser odds are fairly mediocre here. But one thing I happen to notice while checking out The Greek’s chalk is the enormous selection of leagues and events worldwide to choose from. If I want to throw a couple bills on a Norwegian basketball league game or a compelling matchup in the Turkish Baseball League, no problem! Greek’s got me covered.

This cornucopia of chalk options is further reinforced by a very comprehensive list of wager limits for what’s easily a couple of hundred different wager-types for dozens of North American and Euro sports leagues. The limits for the biggest leagues are pretty generous, and the book points out that they’ll negotiate on stretching their limits by phone.

And speaking of phones: if I ever need to get a hold of The Greek by phone, they’ve got a toll-free option to call from just about every country in the western world — available 24/7.

So, although the betting value here isn’t worth a postcard home, these guys certainly appear to be reinvesting a choice sum of their commission scratch into some high-quality customer service and lucrative contest give-aways.

In my opinion, that puts The Greek in the same league as any other above-average online sportsbook. I rate it a 4.1 on a scale of 1-5.
