My first impression of the 5dimes.com online sportsbook is a very positive one. For starters, there isn’t a single third-party flashing banner ad screaming at me when I arrive on the home page. I like this place already.

The front page interface itself is very well-organized, with uncluttered horizontal nav-bars clearly guiding me wherever I want to go. Links for both new account registration and existing account log-in are located comfortably above the fold. And I instantly know I’m not dealing with a Euro sportsbook because there’s an 800 number staring right at me — also above the fold. When I scroll down the page a bit, an 877 number is right there for me to call if I want to set up a new account by phone. Trust me: easy is good. And this place is very easy thus far.

At this point I go searching for some sport-specific policy info. Turns out they offer a standard dime line for basketball and American football, and their parlay and teaser odds are also standard. So 5dimes.com doesn’t blow me away for value. I’m a baseball bettor, and I’m not able to find any info on this book’s standard moneyline vig (at least in the non-member area), so that’s a bit disappointing as well.

On the bright side, 5dimes.com offers as broad an array of wagering options as I can handle. If-bets, pleasers (I’m a big fan of these!) — even Asian handicapping. And a lot more. This book also provides a very handy link to an extensive payout chart illustrating every conceivable payout scenario I could encounter.

The only other minor beef I might have with 5dimes.com is a relatively low wager limit of US$5000. For an obviously stable operation that’s been running continuously out of Costa Rica since 1998, it’s a bit paltry.

But on the whole, this book looks to be a safe, solid and comprehensive online destination for sports wagering. I rate it a 4.3 on a scale of 1-5.
